Food for Thought

12:00 pm Saturday, May 13, 2017

Join us for opportunities to bring mindfulness to the food and to learn about the three simples steps for starting new habits that stick.

We begin at noon and will share research, experiences, try exercises, and have discussion to learn to make the shifts we wish to make around food and mindfulness. There is no need to pre-register. Bring something you'd like to eat during the exercises and, if you like, bring lunch and stay at 12:45 to enjoy lunch informally together.

Food for Thought is a supportive discussion group where we learn about and practice strategies and methods of mindfulness...

to notice our inner and outer environments while eating in order to make the food choices we wish to make,
to slow down, notice interconnections and practice gratitude in order to make eating more meaningful, and
to use eating as a mental training ground in order to develop skills to shift our attitudes and create new habits.
The group meets one Saturday per month, and we have a genuine good time. Drop-ins are welcome. Bring something you'd like to eat during the exercises we'll do using food. Participants are also invited to bring lunch and stay from 12:45 - 1:15 to enjoy lunch informally together.

Comments from past participants include:

"That was the most honest discussion around food I've ever had!"
That centering exercise could be used "in the boardroom, in the classroom or at a restaurant without calling attention to yourself."
"It is helpful to break it down in this way instead of just thinking I'm hungry, to see all the pieces of perception and how they are not permanent."
"This has been more helpful than you realize."

These mindfulness practices "are immediately applicable and I will integrate them into my meal times right away!"
I was shifted from a space of guilt around food, "into a space of appreciation, a feeling of interconnectedness with life and the beauty of it."
"I have really made some positive changes since coming last time."
"So helpful!"
"We did so much more than I thought we would do!"
"This was amazing to me!"
"Really good taste testing exercise."
"You are blowing my mind right now!" And, "This is not just about noticing the raisin! This could help with your whole life!"
"For the first time I was able to watch a craving arise and then dissipate!"
“Thank you so much for all of you for sharing your diverse points of view and that you all came.”
