For Susan McClure

Did you know Susan? You’d hardly notice she was there. She often sat alone, in silence.

Quietly, she was an unintentional teacher. For those who took notice, her simple actions were teachers. Offering guidance on what to do… and what not to.

Like most, Susan indulged in a world filled with real-life moments, and far-away fantasy. Sometimes, she teetered to the extreme.

She liked spicy foods and sugary sweets, and had a near-insatiable fondness for grapefruit juice.

Light on conversation, Susan was generous and kind. She took delight in offering to cover lunch, sharing a bouquet of silk prasadi flowers (previously offered to Tara) with a neighbor, or in dipping her toes in the brisk waters of a babbling brook.

She enjoyed spending time with her dear friend Dean, sending gifts to friends, real and make-believe, and in sharing pages ripped from one of her favorites, “Everyday Kindness: 365 Ways to a Peaceful Life.”

This was the Susan we knew. An unintentional teacher. Or, were we simply the unintentional students?

May you find peace and happiness, dear Susan, and surrounded by love, may you make quick progress on your path to enlightenment.
