Merit Makers

We'd like to send huge thanks to the Volunteers in the Family Program for their service. Their joyful effort is inspiring and creates the causes for our Center to thrive.

Thanks go out this week to Anna Peppard for consistently volunteering for the Front Desk Position. Anna comes to the Center two times per week to answer the phone and greet visitors. This helps our office staff focus on their tasks at hand and provides our guests with a happy warm greeting. Thank you Anna for adding a little sunshine to our days!

Thanks go out this week to Lawrence Gould, Michael Flaherty, Christine and Cary Brief for moving theGa-Ga ball pit from Don Brown's yard to the Center. Thanks to Don and his family for offering it! The children will be very excited to begin to play at their Center. Stay tuned for installation plans!

Thanks to Laura Shimer who came out for Grounds Day last Saturday. Joey and Laura worked in the gardens to prepare them for fall. Also thanks to Barry Judge who brought a load of mulch in for our gardens and to those who helped place in around the stupa last Sunday. We thank you all for the beauty that continues on our grounds year after year!

The Annual Appeal stuffing extravaganza was well attended this year and completed in record time! Thank you to the stellar team that worked happily and diligently to finish the beautiful appeal that will be arriving in your mail boxes: Sherri Harmon, Anna Peppard, Karen Beasley, Arlene VanRyckeghem, Diane Meyer, Kathy Kochevar, Brian Dyer, Liz Rourke, and Hedy Hollyfield.

Four wonderful volunteers make it possible for Kadampa Center to offer FPMT’s Discovering Buddhism, a two-year course that presents a solid grounding in 13 essential aspects of Buddhism. These four, our DB teachers, worked hard to qualify to teach the course, and donate hours of time preparing and presenting the classes.

Our most recent cycle of Discovering Buddhism has come to a close. For 26 months, Erin Sloan has served the teachers and students of this class with kindness, humor and dedication. Turning her mind for organization to this Dharma class, she made sure we’re aligned with the FPMT vision for the class, and she facilitated several meditation Saturdays to fulfill the practice requirements. WOWOWOW!

Thank you to Andrew Hutzel for popping in on Wednesdays and taking care of our trash/recycling, cleaning the bathrooms and sweeping up around our beautiful Center. Thanks Andrew for taking time out of your day to make our Center more comfortable for others. We appreciate you!

Thanks go out this week to the amazing crew that supported our very own Denise Flora in The Rhythm of Virtue Open House. We had folks who set up tables, table hosts, a photographer and everyone else who pitched in during setup and cleanup. Thank you so much for your time and joyful effort. We look forward to the book signing and the 3 workshops to come!

Thanks go out this week to Lee Clark for helping to weather proof our Center in preparation for the hurricane. Lee was around when the everything needed to be put up and again when everything needed to be put back. Thank you Lee for your strength and help! We appreciate you.

Thanks go out this week to Andrés Tellez who designs many of our lovely banners and posters you see on This Week, FaceBook and our website. The interesting sweet fact is Andrés moved back to Columbia and asked if he could still serve from there. Yes! He is an amazing designer and happily produces work from afar. Thank you Andrés for your time, effort and talents even across many miles!

Thanks go out this week to Julie Quetel for pricing all the new merchandise from Nepal for the bookstore! Julie unwrapped, sorted, priced, folded and set up all the new pretty items ready for you to see. Thanks Julie, we can't wait to shop!

Thanks go out this week to Tim Mulhern and David Strevel for enduring the summer heat on our roof. They fixed an issue, did some preventative maintenance and now we are in tip-top shape! Thanks David and Tim for being good stewards of our building. You are both appreciated!

Thanks go out this week to Cecilia Garcia for cleaning our kitchen and making it shine! She and her husband Alberto just moved here from FL where they attended and volunteered at Thubten Kunga Ling Center. Cecelia popped in for lunch bunch where we all had a lively time, then asked how she could help. Thanks for making our Center tidy and we all welcome you both to Raleigh!

Thanks go out this week to Jack Shannon for hanging our paper towel holders in the restrooms. It's a little thing, yet Jack is always willing to help out with requests. It takes tasks large and small to keep our Center thriving. Thanks Jack for making our restrooms orderly!

Thanks go out this week to Julie Lewis, Julie Quetel, Vivian and Oliva Magarino-Gomez for helping to set up the summer Luau party we held last Saturday. We had a blast listening to Hawaiian slat key music, soaking our toes in baby pools, eating yummy food and watching an amazing limbo contest! We held off the rain until the end, then danced under the tent!

Our Nyung Nä purification retreat was a big success, thanks to some wonderful helpers. Huge thanks to Julia McCollum, who gave crucial assistance in planning, shopping and preparation. Heartful thanks to our food dakas and dakinis, Elise Strevel, Patty and Maria Stetson, Suzy Boehm and Peter Murphy, who helped the participants survive the fasting parts of the retreat by providing wonderful meals!

Thanks go out this week to Suzy Boehm. Our website homepage and KC Facebook page are kept up to date daily by Suzy. While she was away on vacation this past week we realized how much help her efforts support the staff! Thank you, Suzy, for keeping us posted on the happenings at our Center. We appreciate you!
