Register to Take Eight Mahayana Precepts on Chokhor Düchen 2023

Sorry, registration is closed. Students who wish to take precepts for the first time may simply come to the Center at 6 am.

Because Chokhor Düchen is a Buddha holy day, all meritorious actions we take are multiplied exponentially, so it's very auspicious to start the day with the Eight Mahayana Precepts!  The precepts are a set of vows taken before sunrise and last for 24 hours.  Learn more about the Eight Mahayana Precepts HERE

Kadampa Center will provide a light breakfast after the Precepts Vows Ceremony.

STUDENTS TAKING PRECEPTS FOR THE FIRST TIME

  • These precepts must be taken from a qualified master the first time they are taken; afterward the student may take them any time -- at home before their altar or at the Center with other students.
  • If you wish to take precepts for the first time, please register below by 5 pm Wednesday, July 19.
  • Please DO NOT register if you have EVER taken precepts in the past..
  • We know it is hard to get up and get to the center before dawn - please consider carefully before you register and be sure you can commit to be at the Center before 6:00 AM.
  • If any student registers to take the 24-hour Precept Vows for the first time, Geshe Gelek will come to the Center by 6:00 AM to offer precepts.  Therefore, if you register, please make every effort to attend and to be on time.

STUDENTS WHO HAVE PREVIOUSLY TAKEN PRECEPTS

  • If you have previously taken precepts from a qualified master, then you are welcome and encouraged to take precepts at Kadampa Center with other students on Chokhor Duchen holy day at 6:00 AM.  Geshe Gelek will be at the Center to offer precepts and then will lead students in lamrim meditation and Lama Tsongkhapa Guru Yoga.
  • If you have previously taken precepts from a qualified master, and you'd like to take precept vows on Chockur Duchen but would rather not come to the Center in person, then you can plan to take the precepts at home at your home altar.  If you are not sure how to do this, please contact Donna.
  • Please do NOT register if you have taken the precepts before.
