Family program letter Jan 2018

THANK YOU to the volunteers who have served since classes have started again! There are several folks who have served multiple weeks in a row including: Kirsten Oshinsky, Virginia Maier, and Dorothy Robson.

The new 16 Guideline is Patience.  And what a way to put practice into action than to be with children!

If we learn to open our hearts, anyone, including the people who drive us crazy, can be our teacher.

WE NEED Leads/Assistants FOR THIS MODULE!  CLICK HERE

  • All positions are open for Jan.28, Feb. 4, Feb. 11, and Feb. 25.  (Feb. 18th is an All Group Losar Celebration in the Gompa).
  • Commit to just 1 lesson, it doesn't have to be all 4!
  • Be Supported! A class flow and lesson plan and any supplies are available to you.
  • Be Confident! You don't have to know everything about Buddhism to teach the Kiddos about the 16 Guidelines.
In meeting with Geshe-la on our behalf this month, here are other works he believes are important or worthwhile:
  • 2018 Family Dharma Camp themed on Patience: the 3rd of the 6 Perfections!  Wealmost have a date reserved at Agape - a facility in Fuquay Varina...stay tuned!
  • An on-site (at the Center) Ga-Ga Ball Pit for the kids to play in before, during, and after classes or other events...stay tuned!
  • Continued Parent Discussion Nights and thanks to Sandy Mitchell, childcare is available! Usually the 3rd Friday of the month, February's will be the 24th due to a Guru Puja on the 16th.
  • Seasonal or Monthly Field Trips to places such as the Zoo to say prayers over the animals!  Leads needed.
  • Develop curriculum for preschool, middle school, and high school classes. Leads needed.
  • Building connections with others to help us practice.  We plan to do this specifically by connecting with the Kadampa Prison Project making malas and Outreach making hygiene kits in the next few months.

To bring these dreams to fruition, please help communicate and create a real community of conversation and connection -Do your part and take these steps below:
  • Connect on the Remind appText kadampacc, kadampakk, kadampaww, or kadampall to 81010. Or go to remind.com and use the same codes to join the class(es) your children are in.
kadampacc = Compassionate Cubs (Preschool)

kadampakk = Kindness Kids (Lower Elem)

kadampaww= Wisdom Warriors (Upper Elem)

kadampall = Loyal Leaders (Middle School)

This is where you can ask what your child learned in class, the volunteer can share what happened, or you can connect for playdates if your child met someone in class they particularly want to play with more.

  • Friend me (Christy Batts) on Facebook so I can add you to the Buddhist Parenting Support Group.  This is where folks usually follow up with thoughts from the Discussion nights.  Even though this is a secret group, it is not exclusive - but the only way to be added is to be a friend of an admin of the group (like me!).

You and your child(ren) count in making this Community just that!  Our class offerings do not happen without them or you.  Here's a visual to help communicate that every child counts.  We look forward to seeing you and your children in the classroom:
