Family Program Spring/Summer Schedule and Events

Hi Dharma Parents!

Check out these new and upcoming happenings at the Center

  • Sunday, April 29th - Sunday, June 10th, 10:30-noon
Special New Family Programming for Sunday Morning
A six week session for families to learn about:
    • Shakyamuni Buddha
    • 4 Noble Truths
    • Saka Dawa
    • His Holiness the Dalai Lama
    • Compassion Day
      • After the prayers in the gompa, a facilitator will lead parents and their children to the education building and guide them through discussion, meditation and activities to discover the dharma. Parents will learn alongside their children throughout the six week course.
      • This class is an one option for families to attend Sunday morning teachings. Donna Seese, our Spiritual Program Coordinator, wants to remind us that if this class is not for you, "Children are welcome in the gompa! If they are restless, noisy, or distracting, it's OK! We all understand that children are children."
      • With special thanks to Adriana Ortegon and Michael Flaherty, the middle school class and preschoolers will continue to have drop off classes available.
  • Friday, May 18th 5:30-8:00 pm
Family Potluck and Parent Discussion Night: Join us with sponsored childcare to talk about parenting in the dharma. Previous subjects have been books to have on your bookshelf, holiday traditions and media usage. Come find community, enjoy good food, and let your kids play with friends!

  • Friday, May 25 4:00 pm - Sunday May 27th 2:00 pm
Operation 16G Spring Campout at Falls Lake. Two nights of camping with our children to practice right speech and service through skits, meditation, hiking, bird watching, and campfire story telling. Join us as we kick off our new summer Program "Operation 16G" with this fun camping event. Register here!

  • Sundays in June, July and August from June 17th - August 19th
Operation 16G: The summer program objective is to highlight the four branches (Think, Act, Relate, and Meaning) of the 16 guidelines using a condensed format. Two of the pre-selected electives are Right Speech and Service. Electives from the other two branches will be selected by the summer program participants. This will be achieved through various activities and the Summer Sessions.

    • In 10 weeks over the Summer, kids will produce a movie, interact with art projects, and volunteer service. The Summer Program objectives will start with a Spring Family Campout (see above), and culminate with the 5th Annual Family Dharma Camp.

  • And finally, Please SAVE THE DATE August 25-27th
Put on your calendars! The 5th Annual Family Dharma Camp at Agape in Fuquay-Varina. Registration will be opening soon!
