Introductory Class Assistant
Introductory Class Assistant
Job Description
The intro class assistant provides assistance to Meditation 101 and Buddhism in a Nutshell leaders. The job duties are:
- Come a half hour before class begins and help with any setup per the leader’s request.
- Stand at the front door and happily greet students as they arrive, helping direct newcomers to the bathrooms, shoe area, water/tea, and gompa. The assistant should stay at the door until about 10 minutes after class has started, to help catch people who come in late.
- Help pass around the microphones in the gompa if needed.
- Provide a glass of water or tea for the class leader.
- Keep an ear out for the door chime and check the lobby if needed.
- Help with any cleanup at the end of the class, and stay with the leader until he/she locks up (so no one is left alone in the center at night). This typically means staying up to 30 minutes after class ends.
Qualifications
The assistant should have already attended the class in the past, so he/she is already familiar with how the evening runs and the overall course.
Friendly, helpful, and flexible - ready to help however directed.
Time Commitment
Volunteers can sign up for one or more classes or an entire 5-week course. The classes are typically once a week on a weekday evening, with a time commitment of 6:30-9:00pm.
