Stupa Construction
If you've got 'em to share, your Center needs your brawn and your tools!
In the next two weeks, we will be doing several outdoor projects at Kadampa Center in the front and back yard. Our biggest need for volunteers is all day on Saturday, February 23rd, and from 2 to 5 pm on Sunday, February 24th, for placing bricks in the path around the stupa. We could also use volunteers to help with other physical work (details below) for a half-day or more most days from Tuesday, February 19th, through Monday, February 25th. On these days, we are planning to work from 10am to 5pm.
We will be renting equipment if we can't borrow it from our members. If you have a heavy-duty garden tiller, a pickup truck, or a wet-cut brick saw with diamond blade, we could use those from Monday, February 18th - Tuesday February 26th. If you own a motorized flat-plate tamper or a half-cubic yard tracked skid-steer loader, we also need those for the week.
Here's more detail: We will be removing rock and creating new gardens, a kid's play area, and a sandbox in the back yard. And in the front yard, we need to excavate several inches deep, install a gravel and sand base to create a carefully graded surface, then cut and place about 4,000 bricks to form the circumambulation plaza around the stupa. This work will require digging or hauling about 120,000 pounds of rock, sand, gravel, and bricks, and installing drainage tubes, underground electrical conduit, and landscape edging.
Please reply to support@kadampa-center.org if you can offer your volunteer labor or any of the equipment items above.
This meritorious work on the stupa and for the Center is fulfilling the wishes of our dear teachers, Geshe Gelek and Lama Zopa Rinpoche, and creating the stupa will benefit all who drive by the Center and see it.
Please let me know if you can lend a hand or if you have any questions.
Big Love, Choekyi
