Khensur Rinpoche Confers Highest Yoga Tantra Initiation

~ Vajrayogini ~

In a rare and precious opportunity, Khensur Rinpoche will confer a Vajrayogini Highest Yoga Tantra Initiation at Kadampa Center.

Sunday, November 6, 10:30 am

This is a Highest Yoga Tantra initiation, the highest level of tantra initiation, therefore students who choose to receive the full initiation must have taken Refuge, and take bodhisattva vows and tantric vows (given during the initiation) and will be given commitments for daily practice. Students taking the full initiation should have a good intellectual understanding of the three principal aspects of the path.

Students who choose NOT to take the full initiation are highly encouraged to take the initation as a blessing only.  Although taking the initiation as a blessing does not require vows or commitments, it is still incredibly powerful and auspicious to receive the initiation as a blessing.

VOLUNTEER ~ VOLUNTEER ~ VOLUNTEER

There are many opportunities to participate in these auspicous events and to serve Khensur Rinpoche, our Geshes, and countless other beings.

ABOUT THE VAJRAYOGINI INITIATION

All are welcome and encouraged to attend the Vajrayogini Initiation!  Students may choose to take the initiation as a blessing only or to receive the full initiation ~ see below for requirements.

The Vajrayogini initiation will begin at 10:30 am on Sunday, Nov 6, and will continue for several hours, with a lunch break as needed. Khensur Rinpoche will determine the ending time.

Students who take the initiation as a blessing:

  • Do not need to take refuge or any vows.
  • Will not be bound to commitments of a daily practice.
  • May attend in person, online via Zoom or via live stream on YouTube.  Register here for Zoom. (note: the recording of the YouTube live stream will NOT be saved or available to view after the initation).

Students who choose to receive the full initiation:

  • Must attend in person at Kadampa Center.
  • Must have taken refuge.
  • Should understand that taking these initiations includes taking bodhisattva vows and tantric vows ~ both of which will be given during the initiation.
  • Should also understand that they will be given commitments of a daily practice connected to the initiation deity for the initiation taken. Generally, Highest Yoga Tantra includes the daily practice of the Six Session Guru Yoga. There will be a brief explanation of the commitment during the initiation. This will be the only instruction on the commitments at this time. Geshe Gelek advises students to focus intently so as not to miss this.
  • Should have a good intellectual understanding of the three principal aspects of the path (renunciation, bodhicitta and emptiness).
  •

Commitments:

Practice:
Students should perform a Vajrayogini sadhana every day, beginning today, November 6.

You can download a copy of the short sadhana that Khensur Rinpoche used to teach the practice here. In addition, copies of another translation of the sadhana are available in English for download from the FPMT Foundation store. There is a short version, a middle length version and a long version.  Any of these is acceptable. Khensur Rinpoche says the short one is doable. If a student is unable to read the sadhana, then it is OK not to do it. FPMT also provides a very helpful Vajrayogini Commentary.

Six Session Guru Yoga - this practice ensures that you keep your tantric vows. It is to be done daily, three sessions in the morning and three in the evening.

Please be aware, if you attended the initiation as a blessing, you do not have permission to do this practice.

Tsog:
Khensur Rinpoche also mentioned the practice of making tsog offerings. This is a good practice to develop a deeper connection to Vajrayogini, but it is not required. The tsog practice is generally performed twice a month according to the Tibetan lunar calendar, on the 10th and 25th days of Tibetan months.
