Sunday Morning Dharma Connections with Gen Don Handrick

Gen Don Handrick teaches this Sunday Morning Dharma Connections on "Adopting an Attitude of Gratitude"

Gratitude is undeniably a common practice of nearly every spiritual tradition as well as part of society at large.  In this session, we will explore how to use the teachings of the Buddha to unlock the richness of our lives through the constant expression of gratefulness towards all aspects of our lives.  We will also discuss how, with an attitude of gratitude, we can tap into our natural state of joy and peace and share that spirit of well-being naturally with others, letting our heart become a source of light and love in the world around us.

10:30am - 12:00pm, Sunday September 17, offered in person and online

"Faith and the Buddhist Path" with Gen Don Handrick

The role of faith can be misunderstood due to the negative connotations that we've come to associate with it, perceiving it as "blind" and thus thinking faith isn't based in logic or actual experience.  In this session, we will examine the ways that faith is incorporated into Buddhis practice, revealing how our own intelligence and active participation in the spiritual journey play an essential role in developing the confidence that fuels our growth and progress.

7:00 - 8:30 pm, Wednesday September 13, offered in person and online

"Conscious Aging: Enjoying the Gifts of Growing Older" with Gen Don Handrick

Life can be quite challenging as we age, and society as a whole offers a poor road map for the last leg of our journey.  But as we proceed through this latter phase of our lives, unique and profound opportunities for spiritual growth and development can be revealed and we can find a renewed sense of purpose and meaning in life.  In this session, we will examine how all of us, regardless of our age, can come to appreciate the value and benefits of growing older with grace.

Clarifying the Middle Way: Tsongkhapa’s “In Praise of Dependent Origination”

~ WEEKEND WORKSHOP ~

7 - 8:30 pm, Friday September 15

10 am - 4 pm, Saturday September 16

1:30 - 4 pm, Sunday September 17

NOTE:  All sessions will be offered in person and online via Zoom and YouTube live stream.  We will break for lunch from 12-1:30 pm on Sat and Sun.

Lama Tsongkhapa (1357-1419) is renowned as one of the greatest scholar-saints that Tibet has ever produced. It is said that he spontaneously composed his brief poetic text, In Praise of Dependent Origination, on the very morning that he attained the clear realization of the profound unity of emptiness and dependent origination, which is the very essence of the Buddha’s Middle Way view.

In this weekend workshop, we will examine Tsongkhapa’s text as an aid to exploring the relationship between these two concepts – emptiness, the ultimate nature of reality, and dependent origination, the fact that phenomena do not exist independently from other factors – in order to deepen our own understanding of their complementary natures.
