HOW TO FACE DEATH WITHOUT FEAR

Death is a natural event, but because we have so much attachment to this life, this body, this self, we cannot stand the thought of death. As Lama Zopa Rinpoche says in his new book, How to Face Death Without Fear, "Death itself is not what causes fear. It is simply the consciousness leaving the body; one labels death on that event. There is no terrifying death from its own side; the terrifying death is made up by our own mind."

Because of this fear, we simply don’t believe we will die. Or if we do think about death it’s always someone else who dies. But it’s not enough to be sad, to have compassion. Knowing that we’re in charge, not a creator or anyone else, and understanding well the workings of the natural law of karma — that every thought and action leaves a seed in our mind that will just naturally ripen as our future experiences — we will lead a meaningful life and thus be prepared for death and our next rebirth.

And then we can help others. As Rinpoche says, “Helping our loved ones at the time of death is the best service we can offer them, our greatest gift, Why? Because death is the most important time of life: it’s at death that the next rebirth is determined.”

MAHAMUDRA: HOW TO DISCOVER OUR TRUE NATURE

Wednesday May 17 and Thursday May 18 from 7:00 - 9:00 pm

Venerable Robina teaches Wednesday & Thursday evening on Lama Yeshe's book, Mahamudra: How to Discover Our True Nature.  Join us as we unravel the way to understanding our true nature, our Buddha nature.

Teachings will be offered in person at Kadampa Center as well as online via Zoom HERE or YouTube live stream HERE.

According to Buddha’s amazing view about the human mind, we all have the potential to achieve buddhahood: the eradication of all delusions and the development to perfection of all goodness.

In his beautiful book, MahamudraHow to Discover Our True Nature, Lama Yeshe explains so clearly, so simply, how to get in touch with this natural potential through meditation on the mind itself, the unique characteristic of mahamudra meditation, and finally by realizing the emptiness of the mind: our buddha nature.  As always, Lama Yeshe's words are direct, funny, and incredibly encouraging -- he makes enlightenment seem possible.  He gets us to go beyond ego's addiction to a limited sense of self and to taste the lightness and expansiveness of our true nature.

Praises to the 21 Taras

Sunday April 16th, 10:30-11:30am

All are invited to join together this Sunday April 16 to offer prayers for our holy and precious guru, Lama Zopa Rinpoche, who showed the aspect of passing away on April 13 and now sits in clear light meditation at Kopan Monastery.

Everyone is invited to bring a candle offering for the altar.  Flower offerings are always appreciated as well.

Lama Thubten Zopa Rinpoche

Lama Thubten Zopa Rinpoche, FPMT's Spiritual Director, is the reincarnation of the Sherpa Nyingma yogi Kunsang Yeshe, the Lawudo Lama. Rinpoche was born in 1946 in Thami, not far from the cave Lawudo, in the Mount Everest region of Nepal, where his predecessor meditated for the last twenty years of his life. He began teaching courses on Buddhism to Westerners in 1965, along with Lama Yeshe. They founded several centers that eventually became the building blocks of the FPMT. As of December 2001, there are 132 FPMT centers and projects worldwide.

By regularly visiting the FPMT Updates Regarding Lama Zopa Rinpoche page you can find all updates related to Rinpoche's passing, including prayer and practice advice received by the FPMT International Office.  At this time, students are advised to practice bodhichitta and impermanence.

Visit the Official Homepage for Lama Zopa Rinpoche to learn more about our dear spiritual teacher.

Praises to the 21 Taras

Tara, a female buddha, represents enlightened activities that address a multitude of our spiritual and temporal needs. These are represented by the 21 Taras, each an aspect of her buddha nature and wisdom.  Each verse of the Praises to the 21 Taras is a praise to one of the 21 aspects of the Buddha Tara.

All are welcome and encouraged to attend ~ no experience necessary!
