How do you get to Oz? Follow the yellow brick road.

How do you get to Enlightenment? Follow the lamrim, the graduated path.

Join Geshe Gelek as he guides us to selected landmarks along the road to enlightenment.

These teachings can be accessed both in person and online via Zoom or on YouTube.

Registration is required to attend the teachings via Zoom. Please click here to register.

Geshe-la's current topic: Wisdom

(Previous topics: Patience, finished August 2023; Joyful Effort/Endeavor, finished Oct 2023)

Geshe Gelek will teach on Wisdom, based on Shantideva's Guide to the Bodhisattva's Way of Life, using the manual titled "A Flash of Lightning in the Dark of Night: A Guide to the Bodhisattva's Way of Life" by His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

About the lamrim: In his great compassion, Shakyamuni Buddhia opened the gates to the road to enlightenment through his teachings.

Many years later, Lama Atisha organized all of the Buddha's teachings into a step-by-step guide -- a road map to the territory of practice --  in a short text called "Lamp for the Path to Enlightenment."

Lama Tsongkhapa (the founder of our Gelugpa lineage) wrote a detailed explanation of Lama Atisha's text to help students understand and practice the instructions, called The Great Treatise on the Stages of the Path to Enlightenment (Lamrim Chenmo). This lamrim foundation is the basis of all practice in our lineage, including tantra.

These incredible teachings by Geshe Gelek on this text are a rare and precious opportunity to gain insights into how to practice.

Join these teachings in person at Kadampa Center or via Zoom or on YouTube.

Tuesday, February 21, (All day) 2023

Don't miss out on this powerful two-week opportunity to create skies of merit!

For 15 days beginning on Losar, Tibetan New Year (Tuesday, Feb. 21), the karmic results of all our actions - good and bad - are multiplied millions of times (as cited by Lama Zopa Rinpoche, from the Vinaya text Treasures of Quotations and Logic).

So it's a good time to make a conscientious effort to do practice - or any positive action, such as smiling at others, letting someone go before you or doing someone else's chores at home.

Geshe Gelek encourages us to take advantage of this time and do more practice.

Kadampa Center will hold several prayer services (pujas) during this season:

Medicine Buddha Puja Online on Monday, Feb. 27 at 12 pm
Medicine Buddha Puja Online on Tuesday, March 7 at 12 pm

Those who have previously taken the Eight Mahayana Precepts may wish to take them on any (or all! why not be brave?) of these days. (The first time we take these vows, it must be with a qualified master.)

Students can find Lama Zopa Rinpoche’s advice for merit multiplying days, including the Fifteen Days of Miracles, collected online.

If you recite the Sutra of Golden Light on these special days, FPMT invites you to report your recitations on the Sutra of Golden Light reporting page.

Come join in celebrating Losar!

Kadampa Center will mark the Tibetan New Year, on Sunday, February 26, at 10:30 am. We will begin with processing the photo of His Holiness the Dalai Lama into the gompa to a seat of honor and respect on the high throne at the front of the room.

This is a family-friendly event - we expect a visit from the Snow Lion! to delight both children and adults!

We will enjoy milk tea, Tibetan rice, and cookies during the celebration.

The actual date of Losar is Tuesday, February 21, which marks the beginning of the 14-day Days of Miracles, a festival of prayer. Lama Zopa Rinpoche advises us that this is an especially auspicious time to do spiritual practice, because our merit multiplies exponentially.

How to Meditate is part of a two-year series of classes called Discovering Buddhism. In this course we explore 13 essential topics in Buddhism, from Meditation to Karma to Death and Rebirth, with much, much more! This is an excellent course of study for those who have the very basics and wish to start going a little deeper into Buddhist philosophy.

DB was developed by our affiliate organization, the Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition (FPMT.org), and is taught at Kadampa Center by senior lay students with many years of study and practice. Students who take the course together tend to develop great friendships with their Dharma buddies!

In keeping with our long-standing tradition, Kadampa Center does not charge a fee for any Dharma course. These teachings are too precious to allow money to be an obstacle for anyone to hear them!  We do, of course, have expenses to offer the course, so we happily welcome any heart-felt donations.

The instructor for this class is Don Brown.
