7:00 pm Monday, June 1, 2020

Our spiritual practice aims to develop compassion for others.  In that practice, we can lose sight of the importance of practicing compassion for ourselves.

And in a time of great upheaval and suffering, the overwhelming needs of others can burn us out.

With her sharp intellect, incisive wit and warm compassion, Venerable Robina Courtin will address how to maintain balanced compassion.

Supporting the teachings

Supporting the teachings is an incredibly powerful and important act -- it is a practice of the highest form of generosity – giving the means to enlightenment. Kadampa Center has for many years operated within the ideal of offering teachings without charging a fee, so that money is not an obstacle for anyone to hear the precious teachings and participate in the practices. We rely on the generous hearts of those who are moved to support the spiritual offerings and keep them open to everyone regardless of ability to pay.

Although we don't have the expense of travel and hospitality for Venerable Robina during her visit, donations are still needed and meaningful, and make it possible for us to make a generous offering to her on behalf of everyone attending the teachings.

Supporting the teachings benefits not just the Center and those who attend, but it also greatly benefits the donor, because it creates the causes to meet the teachings again in future lives, and deepens the connection with the teacher.

Kadampa Center offers two ways to support the teachings: Sponsorships and Donations.

Sponsorships begin at $250.

Sponsors receive:

 - The opportunity to write a personal dedication that we will post on the gompa door for all to share.  We must receive the sponsorship and dedication by Friday, May 29 to assure we have time to print and post your dedication.

There may be more than one sponsor for any event.

Donations are any amount less than $250.

Donors of $100 or more receive:

 - The opportunity to write a personal dedication that we will post on this pagefor all to share. We must receive the sponsorship and dedication by Friday, May 29 to assure we have time to print and post your dedication.

Supporting the teachings is a two-step process

Step One  is dedicating your generosity (click here).

Step Two  is making the donation or sponsorship (use the buttons below on this page),

Dedications may be very simple - "For my mother, Rosemary" - or they might encompass more extensive spiritual wishes, such as "May these teachings be the cause to liberate all sentient beings," or wishes for the teacher's long life, to benefit a person who is ill - any heart-felt positive intention!  You also can dedicate for more than one intention. If you'd like, you can team up with friends on a sponsorship - please have one person make the donation and work it out among yourselves.

Use our secure online community to donate by clicking your choice below.

To try our new Text Giving, send KC108 to 73256 and select your level from the drop down menu..

Protector, remover of obstacles, model of enlightened activity, inspiration to Lama Atisha - Tara is all of these. Doing Tara practice clears obstacles in our spiritual lives and helps us attain our positive goals, both spiritual and mundane.

Tara is a female Buddha whose qualities include enlightened action and swiftly removing obstacles (Tara's 21 aspects are represented in statues on our altar).

Geshe Gelek translated this special practice, The Practice of Tara that Fulfills All Wishes, and assures us that this will greatly benefit not just our center and community, but have the best benefit of helping all sentient beings.

Geshe Gelek's teacher, (the former Abbot of Sera Je Monastery) Khensur Rinpoche Lobsang Delek, also said when he visited in 2011 that we have a special connection to Tara, so doing her practice is incredibly beneficial for our community, harmony working together, and the success of Kadampa Center.

We will do this practice via Zoom, which will allow us to display the text for all to participate.  There will be no YouTube streaming.

Registration is required to join the Zoom session. This helps protect the session from "trolls" and helps protect participants' security.

Sunday Morning Meditation ~ now offered in person and on Zoom!

Meditation is a foundational tool for Buddhist spiritual practice. One's suffering and one's happiness is dependent upon one's mind. To ensure for ourselves the happiness that we so ardently desire, it is essential that we begin each day with a peaceful and calm mind.

What to expect:

Sunday Morning Meditation will last ~45 minutes.  The Sunday Morning Mediation Leader will begin each session with motivation and prayers, followed by 15 minutes of seated silent meditation, then 10 minutes of optional walking silent meditation, followed by another 15 minutes of seated silent meditaion, and will conclude with dedication and prayers.

Participating in person at Kadampa Center:  Please adhere to COVID protocols and plan to arrive before 9:00 am to find seating and to get settled.

Participating via Zoom:  Registration is required - click here to register, after which you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining via Zoom. Please log on no later than 9:00 am.

Each and every one is invited to come. You will find it to be a wonderful and relaxing way, not only to begin your day, but also your week.  All are welcome regardless of one's level of practice.

Lama Tsongkhapa's Lamrim presents the entire path to enlightenment in a step-by-step fashion.

Geshe Gelek advises that beyond study, we need meditation and thoughtful engagement in the text in order to have realizations.  Hearing the teachings is just the first step.

In addition, we need merit-making practices to open the doors to deeper understanding. These include the great preliminary practices of prostrations to the 35 Confession Buddhas, Vajrasattva practice, making mandala offerings, and reciting the refuge and bodhicitta prayer.

In these practice sessions, we will combinethese preliminary practices, with additional prayer and meditation on selected lamrim texts.

For the online practice sessions, you can download the Lama Tsongkhapa Guru Yoga and Lamrim prayers  from FPMT's Foundation Store

You may also choose to simply listen and meditate on the meaning of the prayers.

The evening will include:

Lama Tsongkhapa Guru Yoga and meditation

Purification practice (on alternating weeks, we will do prostrations to the 35 Confession Buddhas and Vajrasattva practice)

Mandala offerings

Analytical meditation on selected lamrim texts

as well as other prayers
