Holy Day Assistant

Holy Days Assistant

The Holy Days Assistant helps facilitate planning for holy days by working with the Spiritual Program Coordinator (SPC) and Holy Day Coordinator. The assistant would keep track of the yearly schedule, help communicate the events with instructions from the Coordinator, put Volunteer jobs on VolunteerSpot, be available to help at the center on holy days to keep the center open and other duties as delegated by the SPC.

Introductory Class Assistant

Job Description

The intro class assistant provides assistance to Meditation 101 and Buddhism in a Nutshell leaders. The job duties are:
- Come a half hour before class begins and help with any setup per the leader’s request.
- Stand at the front door and happily greet students as they arrive, helping direct newcomers to the bathrooms, shoe area, water/tea, and gompa. The assistant should stay at the door until about 10 minutes after class has started, to help catch people who come in late.
- Help pass around the microphones in the gompa if needed.

The Care Squad Coordinator will coordinate between members with requested needs (see care squad initial guidelines) and a group of volunteers, who have identified areas where they are willing to provide assistance. The role of the coordinator is to screen requests per guidelines from members and work with a database of volunteers to initiate the process of matching a volunteer to the person making the request.

Assistant Facilities Manager

Primary Purpose:
This position will work throughout the year to find varying and innovative ways to appreciate our volunteers, the backbone of the Center. This role will cultivate an environment of gratitude for volunteers in an ongoing, consistent way, through offering often small acts of appreciation. 

This position reports to: Volunteer Coordinator

This position oversees: no one

Hours & Time Required: 2 hours per week

Frequency of work/meetings: Attendance at quarterly volunteer leadership trainings, available to stop by at the start of most standing meetings

Prison Project Course Leaders

Prison Project Course Leaders

The Kadampa Center Prison Project leads classes in nearby prisons based on meditation practices. We typically meet at the prison either weekly or biweekly. Our classes are based on a variety of Buddhist-based texts, but are typically taught in a secular manner (i.e., the class is appropriate for anyone interested in meditation and improving how they deal with their mind and emotions).

Right now, most of the classes we lead are at prisons that require a drive of 45-minutes to 2 hours from Raleigh. Most classes are held in the afternoon or early evening.

Hospitality Lead

Hospitality Lead 

Primary Purpose: Working at the direction of the Membership Coordinator, this position is one of the frontline, public faces of Kadampa Center. The Hospitality Lead sets the tone for the greeters and those interacting with Center newcomers. This role will oversee all aspects of hospitality for anyone coming to the Center, such as working with the Kadampa Café and Potluck leads.
